Administrative / Organizational Meeting
In order to function effectively as a group and set our common goals for the near term, we need to discuss and organize. The purpose of this meeting is to get the foundation of our organization together, and set our priorities and goals. Everyone is welcome to attend and contribute, and the event is scheduled after the Junk Jam to make it convenient.
Items on the draft agenda include:
- Presentation: Overview / Survey of other Makerspaces
- Organization Name
- Priorities & Goals
- Costs / Budget to Achieve Goals
- Funding options to cover budget
- Membership Structure
- Election of Directors
- Formation of Committees
It's quite a bit to work through, but I think if we're disciplined and don't stray off-topic too often, it can be done. If you have items or suggestions for points of discussion, please let me know and I'll make sure it gets into the agenda in the appropriate spot.
Date / Time: Saturday, Dec 15th --- 4pm - 6pm
Location: Edison Tech Center - 136 N. Broadway, Schenectady, NY

Quick question, will we using Roberts Rules of Order?

My natural inclination is to follow the spirit of Robert's Rules without getting bogged down in the strict technicalities. For those who are not familiar with the principles, there is a greatly simplified 2 page PDF that gives the high level concepts. The actual full-monty version of the rules is... well, it's meant for considerably larger organizations, or organizations which really need such structure to keep things in line.
The adoption of Robert's Rules of Order or the Simplified version, or something else, it's a group decision so I'll leave it at that. I happen to take the view that the processes in RR should be used when they clarify and facilitate the orderly flow of business, but like anything it is simply a tool and the intent of how that tool is used is important. I fully support productive, constructive and considerate use of the tool, but only under those situations. That's just my 2 cents.
